A man in his early 20s simply identified as Ogheneruemu whose surname could not be confirmed has drowned at Oteri-Ughelli community beach while celebrating his birthday in North local government area of Delta State.
The deceased, who is said to be an indigene of the community had went with his friends to swim at a dredged site as part of activities for the celebration before his untimely death.
Source disclosed that the deceased had entertained his friends at their family home before some of his friends prevailed on to and swim at the beach last Thursday.
“The corpse of the deceased was recovered after two days of intensive search and has been buried at the bank of the river in accordance with the customs of the land.
“The community has issued a seven days mourning, and stay at home order pending when the traditional rites are been fulfilled.
When contacted, the Delta state Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe said, “The police is not aware of the incident, maybe it was not reported”.
